MICHAEL EGGINGTON

CEO

Michael is a recognised leader in later living development, large-scale master planned communities, and integrated housing. As a CEO, Michael has previously been responsible for overseeing 14,000+ units across 72 Retirement Villages in Australia and New Zealand, all with high “resident satisfaction” and performance. His passion for changing how older people live in the future has made him a Government Policy advisor, association Director, and keynote speaker.

PHIL BAYLISS

Chairman

Phil is Head of Later Living at Legal & General, leading its long-term investment into the later living housing sector. Phil has more than 14 years’ experience in the property sector, having joined Legal & General in 2007 from AMP Capital. Phil launched Legal & General’s later living business in 2017, committed to revolutionising the way we age and making a positive socio-economic impact across the UK.

TOM BRAY-SMITH

Finance Director

Tom joined from Legal & General Capital’s later living team, having played a pivotal role in the establishment of Guild Living. Tom was part of the team that launched Legal & General’s later living business with the acquisition of two villages in 2017, followed by the acquisition of Renaissance Villages later that year. Prior to joining Legal & General, Tom worked at Grant Thornton advising lenders on distressed positions and corporates on the raising of debt funding. Tom is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW).

ROB WIDRIG

Investment & Strategy Director

Rob has spent the last three years specialising in later living investment. He joins Guild Living from Legal & General Capital where he was an integral part of the Later Living team and led the development of Guild Living’s investment strategy. He has 7 years’ experience across UK real estate, having previously worked at LGIM Real Assets. Rob has a First Class Honours degree in Economics from the University of Exeter and is a holder of the Investment Management Certificate. He was previously a Non-Executive Director of Inspired Villages Group.

PROFESSOR MALCOLM JOHNSON

Visiting Professor of Gerontology and End of Life Care,
University of Bath

Malcolm Johnson is currently Visiting Professor of Gerontology and End of Life Care at the University of Bath, and has been Professor of Health and Social Policy at the University of Bristol (now Emeritus) since 1995. From 1984 - 95 he was Professor of Health and Social Welfare and subsequently first Dean of the School of Health and Social Welfare at the Open University. He is a former Secretary of the BSA Medical Sociology Group and the British Society of Gerontology and Founding Editor of the international journal Ageing and Society.

He is Director of the International Institute on Health and Ageing. His research and consultancy include extensive work (with a variety of agencies including The States of Jersey, MHA Care Group, BUPA Care, Anchor Trust, Barchester Healthcare, Pocklington Trust, St Monica Trust, amongst others) on the long term care and the domiciliary care of older people. He is an expert on assessment issues. Over the past fifteen years he has extended into death and dying and end of life care and the development of good practice in that field.

CHRIS BAMFORD

Care Operations Director

Chris has extensive experience at Director level in healthcare and later living services. He is passionate about delivering exceptional standards of service and personalised care and believes the key to consistently high performance is to focus on attracting, developing and retaining great people.

Chris started his career in the Health, Fitness and Leisure industry and for ten years commissioned and operated a number of health and wellness clubs across London.

In 2006, he joined the Healthcare sector and has since worked for both private and not-for-profit providers, operating large residential and nursing services across the country. Chris also spent three years on the executive board of a complex care provider, looking after people with spinal cord and acquired brain injuries.

Chris is responsible for developing an integrated wellness strategy to deliver a world class service to residents to enhance their wellbeing. He will establish the highest calibre care teams and manage healthcare and medical service providers for each of the Guild Living Villages.

PATRICK HEESEN

Marketing Director

Patrick has accumulated 20 years’ experience in the hospitality industry of which the last 13 years were working in luxury hospitality marketing with Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Marriott International. He has held various marketing and digital leadership roles and has worked with the world’s leading brands and finest hotels across the Benelux, Southern Europe and the UK.

Patrick’s last role was Director of Marketing for Marriott International, where he was directly responsible for the marketing strategy of 21 premium and luxury hotels in London, the UK digital marketing team and played a leading role in demand generation, loyalty & partnership marketing initiatives leading 30+ marketing associates.

Patrick studied at Haarlem Business School and graduated with a Bachelor of Marketing before obtaining a Masters Degree of Business Innovation at Breda University in the Netherlands. He is a regular guest speaker at marketing events and educational institutes raising awareness for the importance of (digital) marketing in the changing commercial landscape.

Patrick brings a wealth of experience in (digital) marketing, brand management, developing guest experiences and has a strong track record in building and managing international teams and stakeholders. He will be responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of fully integrated marketing and brand strategies and activities for Guild Living.

ALEXANDER SPENCER (SANDY)

Sales Director

Alexander, also known as Sandy, has over 9 years’ Sales and Marketing management experience as well as 6 years’ experience in property development.

Sandy studied at Queensland University of Technology in Australia achieving a bachelor of Property Economics. Coming from a large family of architects, Sandy's early career in property development led him to Sales and Marketing management roles for some of the largest property and retirement operators in Australia.

His most recent role was National Sales Manager for New Developments in Aveo Group in Brisbane, where he worked for over five years, and was recently nominated as the Property Council's Future leader of the year (Retirement Living Australia)

Sandy works closely with the development teams through site acquisition to project launch, he will create and implement pre-launch strategies and leads on sales pitches and presentations.

MIKE MAXWELL

Construction Director

Mike has a total of 29 years’ experience working as a main contractor, as part of a FTSE 100 consultancy firm, and recently as a contractor/developer specialising in regeneration.

Mike attended the University of Ulster and graduated in 1990 with a BSc. in Construction Management. He started his career as a graduate engineer working for one of the UK’s top 10 construction contracting firms, progressing to the position of project manager over an 8-year period and remaining in that position for a further 3 years.

Mike’s last role was Regional Operations Director at Lovell Partnerships Ltd, where he was responsible for all operational matters relating to the delivery of contracting and development projects throughout London and the Northern Home counties, before concentrating on strategic pre-construction activities.

During his career, Mike has been involved in highly challenging landmark and ground-breaking projects such as Wembley National Football Stadium and the London Congestion Charge Scheme, which on completion have been exemplar in delivering or exceeding clients’ expectations.

Mike’s role is to develop a procurement strategy together with policies and procedures to ensure Guild Living compliance of legislation such as Health & Safety. He will establish a development programme for each site and manage the supply chain relationship to drive efficiency in purchasing and procurement, across the programme of works. In addition he will build a talented team to assist him and contribute to design development on construction, management of the governance process and develop reporting procedures to monitor key metrics.

EDWARD, 76

Edward is living proof of the benefits from robotic brain training and cardio wall fitness. He was walking slowly because of arthrosis, frustrated and angry with the world. He found a totally different attitude to ageing, with a new set of activities. Now, Edward goes to dancing classes with his wife and has restored life's joyful experiences.

MARY, 80

At 80, Mary found inspiration in rigorous laugh therapy. She was low on energy, poorly groomed (by high standards), and couldn’t smile. Since, her life has completely changed. She now smiles all of the time, goes to the hairdresser once a week, and has become the “queen of the club.”

JENNIFER, 66

Jennifer thrives on typical grandma stuff, like gaming, iPads, and neuro-training. She was feeling much older than her age, resigned to watch time pass by. Within a week, she understood that she had been missing quality of life. A focus on nutrition, exercise, and brain training led to a positive attitude, weight loss, and the pep to undertake new challenges.
